Focus on higher-pay jobs

Thursday, September 2nd 2010

The City Council has scheduled a vote today on an action plan for the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation that the city and Bexar County have boosted with an extra $1 million a year and charged with recruiting higher-paying jobs than ever before.
The government funding turns EDF into a public/private economic development organization for the first time since its 1975 founding by private-sector companies.

The city and county each will provide $500,000 a year for the next five years, growing the yearly budget to $2.4 million from $1.4 million. EDF also is halfway through a campaign to increase its private funding by $300,000, EDF President Mario Hernandez said.
